Your child is a special gift from God, and we know that raising and nurturing children is an exciting, yet sometimes overwhelming challenge and responsibility. Our Preschool Ministry is here to partner with parents during these exciting first years of life.

“You must love the Lord your God with your whole mind, your whole being, and all your strength. These words I am commanding you today must be kept in mind, and you must teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up.”  — Deuteronomy 6:5-7(NET)

Your child will be welcomed to a safe and loving environment by dedicated teachers who will meet his or her needs for security, acceptance, independence and guidance. On your first visit, greeters will help you check in and find the appropriate classroom for your child. Computer kiosks are located in the hallways for you to check your child in on subsequent visits. Your child will receive a name tag with his or her classroom on it. Preschool parents will also receive a receipt for pick-up, which will need to be presented when you return to pick up your child.

Please inform the classroom teacher of any special needs your child may have.

Available Sunday mornings at all three campuses and during all regular services

We offer nursery at every service for our very youngest children.  Our trained nursery workers provide loving care and simple, age-appropriate activities for your children. The nursery opens 15 minutes before the beginning of each service.

Sunday Morning – All Campuses

We offer structured Sunday School classes at every campus beginning at age 2. Bible instruction is presented in an age-appropriate manner.  Our teachers use “Hands-On Bible Curriculum” by Group Publishing.

During the main worship service, we offer an Extended Session for our preschoolers.  The 2-year-old through pre-K classes expand on the morning’s Sunday School lesson using centers with blocks, art, home living, story time, puzzles and music.

Sunday Evenings – Hixson and Soddy Daisy Campuses

Our children participate in the AWANA program on Sunday nights at both the Hixson and Soddy Daisy campuses from 5 – 6:30 PM.  Children ages 2 years through 5th grade can take part in AWANA.

To find out more about our AWANA program, click here.

Parents may participate in adult choir practice or an adult Bible study in the sanctuary during this time.

Wednesday Evening – Hixson Campus

On Wednesday nights, many families enjoy dinner at church followed by Children’s Choir for ages 3 years through 5th grade at the Hixson campus.

From 6 to 7 PM, all children come together at our Hixson campus to learn and praise God in children’s choir! Classes begin with our 3-year-olds and go through 5th grade. During this time, parents may choose one of our Stuart Heights University (SHU) classes to attend.

Baby/Child Dedication

Baby/Child Dedication is a commitment service where parents promise to raise their child in a God-honoring way. During the dedication service parents are asked to make the following commitments.

  • I acknowledge that my child is a gift from God.
  • I will show God’s love to my child through my actions and by bringing him to church.
  • I will communicate to my child that he/she matters to God.
  • I will pray for my child.
  • I will commit to do all I can to raise my child in a home that honors God, and support his/her spiritual growth.

In Luke 2:22-25 we see that as a baby, Jesus’ parents dedicated Him to God’s work. In Mark 10:16 we see Jesus bestowing blessings on the children.

The Dedication ceremony is a time to for the parents AND the church family to publicly make a commitment to pray for the child, love the child and guide the child toward a personal relationship with Christ as parents are instructed to do in the following verses.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7

Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

 Psalm 78: 2-7
I will declare wise sayings;
I will speak mysteries from the past
things we have heard and known
and that our fathers have passed down to us.

We must not hide them from their children,
but must tell a future generation
the praises of the LORD,
His might, and the wonderful works
He has performed.

He established a testimony in Jacob
and set up a law in Israel,
which He commanded our fathers
to teach to their children

so that a future generation—
children yet to be born—might know.
They were to rise and tell their children

so that they might put their confidence in God
and not forget God’s works,
but keep His commandments;

 Ephesians 6:4

And fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Stuart Heights Baptist Church does not baptize children until they are old enough to articulate their understanding and belief in Jesus Christ. The Bible assures us that every baby is secure in the Grace of God. An age or time of personal accountability comes when the individual will decide whether or not to personally respond to the Grace of God offered in personal salvation.

Each of our campuses has a dedicated volunteer staff who oversees the preschool and children’s departments. If you have any questions, your Campus Coordinators will be happy to assist you.

To Volunteer:

It takes many volunteers to provide a wonderful children’s program.  We appreciate the amazing team that we have at Stuart Heights! The adults and youth who work with our children love them and are building relationships with them. That is why our children want to come to church.

If you would like to volunteer in any area of the children’s ministry, please pick up an application from one of your Campus Coordinators or you may fill one out here, print it and drop it off at the church office.  All applicants must submit to a security background check. You may also contact Dani Vetterick or Roger Russell.
